ASTRO IMPACT! DE_MAKE IS 1 YEAR OLD TODAY!!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ†


Damn, it really has been quite a year huh?

A huge thank you to everyone who played this game. Even bigger thanks to everyone who provided feedback! More than 50 people have downloaded this game here and on Android!!! It may not seem much, but that is a really huge success for the first game I have ever published. AND ITS NOT EVEN FULLY OUT YET!


This isn't an update devlog like the others I made, this is a little bit of retrospective and future plans not only for Astro Impact! De_Make, but for the other games and OneRedEyeDev. Enjoy :D

BACKGROUND (Q & A)

Q: Who is OneRedEyeDev and why such a name?

A: My real Name is Munga Collins Gichuhi. I'm Software Engineer and a hobbyist video game developer from Nairobi, Kenya. The name OneRedEye came about when I was in university. When I was heading home one day, a fruit fly fell in my eye, and I kept on rubbing the eye trying to remove it. The next day my eye was bloodshot red, and I had a presentation during a Computer Architecture class. Some classmates said I was doing weed, others said I got into a fight; Neither party believed my side of the story :( The Dev part of it came from developing software. Oh yeah, it was initially OneRedEye because back then I was only producing music. I was using my Steam username as my Username in SoundCloud at the time before switching to OneRedEye. I started learning how to develop video games in 2017. I started drawing pixel art in March 2020. I published my first game exactly 1 year ago!


Q: Why did you choose to develop video games?

A: I had only 2 classes in 1 certain semester, so I decided to learn how to make games since I love them so much. I started with Unity but switched to Godot in February 2023 to make Astro Impact! De_Make because I was running out of storage on my SSD to make another game for the 2023 Nokia Game Jam


Q: What are your favourite games?

A: I love all sorts of games. I have played a lot of games in my life so far, but If I had to narrow it down to 3; by order, they'd be:

1. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R

2. ULTRAKILL

3. BlazBlue ChronoPhantasma Extend

WHAT'S NEXT FOR ASTRO IMPACT DE_MAKE???

I have been working on V5 of the demo (Yes, it's that significant that I had to skip V4) It is taking some time because I no longer have as much time as I did before. If you havent noticed, I havent really published any other game update or participated in any other jam since last October. I got a Job contract thanks to Astro Impact De_Make! I kid you not, I sent my itch.io profile as my Portfolio and was invited to an interview. I aced it!


Anyways, here is what will be coming:

1. Story Mode. The first chapter will be available to play.

2. More varied enemies, bosses and patterns. 

3. More Powerups and balancing based on feedback.

4. TATE MODE

5. Executable/App Size Optimization.

6. 2 Player Modes.

7. Hopefully, it will be available on Steam!

There are more changes and QoL features already implemented. I don't want to spoil anything :D You just have to look forward to it.


WHATS NEXT AFTER ASTRO IMPACT! DE_MAKE?

I'll try to update the other games I made apart from games I made with the Yahaha game engine. Astro Impact DX development will start as soon as I'm done with Astro Impact! De_Make. Honestly, preproduction on it has already begun. 

Is there anything you want to know about DX? Well, it's basically a remake of De_Make. But it will be in 3D. I can't say anything else. But I hope it will be awesome and people will love it.
